Giving Event – December 4, 2020

On December 4, 2020, in a way fitting the year, 100 Women Who Care Fernie hosted its first Giving Event via zoom. The event raised $10,500. The virtual attendees heard from six women about great local organizations and then voted to decide recipients. In the end, Fernie Women’s Resource Centre, Angel Flight East Kootenay, and Fernie Fresh Food Share each received $3,500.

Fernie Women’s Resource Centre

“These funds will help support women during a crisis when they have no other financial means to access. The emergency support is critical in helping women get their basic needs such as safety, shelter, food, medical issues, and transportation addressed. These funds provide women with the support to continue to move forward with their life. There is no specific government funding for this type of help, and we count on community donations to offer the funds to women.” said Lauren Fox – Fernie Women’s Resource Centre

Angel Flight East Kootenay

“Our thanks to the 100 Women Who Care Fernie for their generous donation and for picking Angel Flight East Kootenay to benefit from their first round of giving. All money will be spent to pay for flights for people needing to get to Kelowna for medical appointments.” said Brent Bidston – President, Angel Flight East Kootenay

Fernie Fresh Food Share

“The funds received will help Fernie Fresh Food Share continue to collect excess fresh food from local businesses and make it available to the Fernie Community at no cost.” said Major Kirk Green – Fernie Salvation Army.
